The Moscato grape, precisely the “Moscato d'Alessandria” variety, originally from Egypt, was introduced into Sicily and took the name of Zibibbo, from the Arabic zabib “dried grape”.
Historically, Zibibbo is used to produce sweet wines, yet its grape is perfectly suited to the production of excellent dry white table wines.
